Confessions Formative

How do confessions shape a minister's outlook on life? Someone said to me once, “I would have to confess to some unkind thoughts -- but you probably hear more serious confessions.” I certainly do. One deals with so much intrigue and deception that one begins to expect it. I suspect that it makes one more aware that the real plot often lies behind the apparent plot. But then again, things happen where one is reminded, “This person is really genuine.” OBSERVATION: Another consequence of hearing serious confessions is the perspective: “The heart is desperately wicked,” in Jeremiah 17:9. Perhaps Jeremiah had just been listening to confessions!
