There is the natural inclination to self-preservation or retreat when treated unfairly or unjustly. There is a place for that, but usually one ought to tackle it, if it is not a minor issue. There are various reasons for this, of which I merely give a sample here:
• One is defending a life, not merely an issue
• It may serve to set other people free
• One may have a lot of quiet support
• It often affirms the principle, no respect of persons
• One needs to reckon with God's intervention
• It is spiritually regressive to look to self
