Flexibility

I love the Church historian H. Daniel-Rops. At the moment I am reading The Church of Apostles and Martyrs. Interestingly, he sums up the early Church: "It was extremely flexible." While it had a few broad and tentative plans (but not always), it could switch immediately. I myself have found that part of the secret to life and growth in the Church is flexibility and opportunism. While stability is important, one also needs to have the ability to seize new opportunity or take a new direction almost instantly -- but sensibly. OBSERVATION: Another way of saying it is that one needs to listen to the Spirit, and recognise the hand of God. Some examples on this blog describe the instant creation of new Church groups.
