DOS Box and DOS Emulator

Here's another operating system, tried and true, which is still going today. DOS. I still use it sometimes. There was some brilliant software for it, by now all of it free (see Vetusware, as an example). But how to run DOS on a modern computer? With a modern firmware interface, it can't be done. But one can run it on top of Linux (I am not familiar with Windows or macOS). Just make sure you know how to escape its control. With DOS Box it is exit, and with DOS Emulator is is exitemu. Here are my impressions:
• DOS Emulator (DOSEMU). This is the easiest of the two to use, but it lacks sound, and the display is sub-standard. Type help to see a complete summary of its commands. Press Ctrl-Alt-F for full screen, which means that it takes full control.
• DOS Box is the "real thing". Unlike DOS Emulator, it has sound, and the display is better. If one modifies the dosbox-0.74.conf file, it too takes full control, and Linux is gone: there are easy instructions at stackoverflow.
OBSERVATION: Of course, an operating system is, as it were, only as good as the software that it runs. I tried to run my first ever word processor, Tasword, but both DOS Box and DOS Emulator refused to save files. I tried my word processor of many years, PC Write, and this worked flawlessly. I mostly use DOS for grammar and style checking now.
