Adventure on Sumatra

For the first time this week, I told wife E of an incident in the late 90s. The incident: I visited Sumatra. It was a time of major political and ecological crisis (The Fires) and the island was deserted by tourists. I hailed a taxi at the airport, put my bags in the boot, and jumped in the front. When the driver reached the airport gate, he suddenly stopped, and a man with a scarred face jumped in at the back. Then the taxi raced off with all three of us. I soon figured out that I was in big trouble. That was the incident ... of which wife E wanted to hear all the rest. It led to a week of adventure on Sumatra. OBSERVATION: As usual, I hadn't checked travel advisories.
