Abstract Philosophy

It is hard to tell, I said, what abstract philosophy will do. My piece on What is Grammar? which was published on Monday, has seen the readership of Philosophical Investigations jump (above). OBSERVATION: I reverse what Sapir and Whorf said. They held that linguistic categories influence perception. I say that perception influences linguistic categories -- in this case grammar. I propose that grammars represent a compressive technique, which is driven by those aspects of language which we repeat, based on our particular culture and situation. This differs greatly from other theories.
