The BBC recently estimated that up to 20% of people who are revived after clinical death recall a near death experience (NDE). This does not surprise me. I have heard many personal reports of near death experiences. Some now seek to explain them physiologically. Apart from the known problems in that regard, I see one which I have not encountered elsewhere. If one accepts a physiological explanation, why do these experiences regularly interpret life in terms of the same metanarratives? Why not other metanarratives?
