There is more than one purpose to a minister's leave. It is a time for ...
• spiritual refreshment
• recouping one's physical and mental energies
• obtaining new perspective
• (idly) preparing for ministry that lies ahead
• study in one form or another
• renewing contacts which serve to support ministry
• alternative forms of ministry
All of these things -- and more -- are important. In fact, important for ministry. OBSERVATION: Some Churches fail to understand that ministry is energy-intensive in the extreme -- such that dropout from ministry is extremely high. For this reason alone, a minister's leave is crucial. One needs, too, to accommodate ministers' individual temperaments. They need what they need, in terms of refreshment, to minister effectively. The same applies to Church staff.
