Professional Philosophers

There is a lively debate about whether academic philosophers are the best people to do philosophy. Philosopher and broadcaster Bryan Magee summed it up on the BBC in 1987 (above). A "moot point" is a point which is debatable. Personally, I think that academic philosophers are not ideally placed with regard to integrative work. For this, one needs experience in various fields -- and circumstances. Dr. Martin Cohen notes in his Foreword to my book, "But then, who should write a theory of everything? Is it really going to be a scientist with an atom collider, or a professor in a chair of metaphysics?"
