Perverting Things

The prophet Jeremiah said, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" The Bible is not short of such observations. It is "a crooked and perverse generation", there is "no justice in their tracks," and so on. Why can people not go about things the normal way? Why do they have to invent ways to pervert and subvert everything under the sun? Recently there was a sensational jail break in South Africa (Thabo Bester). Wherever one looked in this saga - with a few notable exceptions -- people absolutely could not do things the normal way. They absolutely had to pervert things. As Isaiah says, "Who can understand it?" It is all around us, in countless forms.
