Something I didn't make explicit in an earlier post was that the metal detector I enhanced this week was IB (induction balance). Recently I added a revolutionary twist to BFO (beat frequency oscillator) detectors, by sending positive feedback back to the coil. That was published in Silicon Chip magazine, March 2023. But positive feedback may work for IB metal detectors, too. It worked for an Andy Flind design that I tested it on this week (the image shows one of his designs). In fact regeneration, as it's called, may enhance the entire range of metal detectors.
