I read an academic article on the "spookily empty" character of contemporary worship, compared with liturgical and traditional worship. Through careful research, contemporary worship was found to have far less spiritual content than liturgical or traditional. OBSERVATION: My own Churches have surely been close to contemporary -- but with a twist. In virtually every service, I have taken liturgical texts and converted them into "everyday speak". Therefore the services were liturgical, but I doubt that anyone recognised it!
