“Royalties”

One so often thinks like this: one writes a book, then one receives royalties. More than a year after the publication of my magnum opus, Everything, Briefly, the "royalties" are, in a sense, far more than this. Among other things:

• I was brought into contact, however briefly, with a panoply of famous people.
• With a few, I found deeper relationships, which so enrich my thought life in particular.
• I was invited to hold an annual lecture in Europe (I accepted), all expenses paid.
• My next book was snapped up as a "hot project" by a major publisher (title: This Town).
• Traffic on my websites multiplied—at times tenfold or more.
• Editors paid attention to me, although I offered them just a few articles.
• A swarm of consultants descended on me! I joked that I could advise them, for a fee.
• And I learnt how to write a book! Not to speak of promoting it.

Everything, Briefly is at https://wipfandstock.com/9781666734935/everything-briefly/. Add Coupon THOMAS40 and one obtains 40% off, with the compliments of the author. On Kindle, it costs a mere $3.44 at https://www.amazon.com/Everything-Briefly-Postmodern-Thomas-Scarborough-ebook/dp/B0B51WQ4GH.
