I received a note from someone who attended my old city Church, for the first time in a while. He was shocked, he wrote, by the condition of the place. Quote: "It has taken a bad turn." In spite of what some of my adversaries say, I am still on the books there, as a minister of the Church. The Church is not, strictly speaking, without a minister, although it may not have a minister "in harness". OBSERVATION: I know why it went off the rails, and I know how one would put it back. To some people's great annoyance, I foretold what was to come. Unfortunately, I was correct (some predictions, however, went beyond the present). From time to time, the Church had been called the jewel of Congregationalism. I joked that it was a flawed jewel. But a jewel it was.
