Great-Grandfather
This morning I rediscovered a family history that my father wrote. Most unusually, my great-grandfather Thomas was born on 8 September 1808. That was more than two centuries ago, before the Battle of Waterloo, and years before Napoleon invaded Russia, or Shaka Zulu became king. The reason for this is that my male ancestors all had sons fairly late in life. My own father was relatively fast, as I was born when he was 33. OBSERVATION: My father passed on memories of his father to me, including Krakatoa and Halley's Comet. Few people will have heard such stories through their grandparents.
