Several years ago, I designed three new belt buckles -- which worked on new principles. I have never seen one of them before, and have never found one on the Internet. I did a proof-of-concept of each one -- and wore two of them continually, until today, when I retired them still intact. Two out of three had no moving parts -- the third had one moving part. The common belt buckle has two moving parts. OBSERVATION: Not counting the leather, which could be called a moving part. I would think that all three of my designs have commercial potential.
