Death Deeply Felt

There is, in Xhosa culture, an imminent sense of death. Every day could be one's last. This is a deeply felt reality -- not the more theoretical recognition of Whites that, well, it's possible. OBSERVATION: I think there may be two reasons for this. Firstly, families are big, and therefore, close relatives die all the time. Suppose one has ten aunts and ten uncles (which includes spouses). That makes 20. Suppose that each couple has five children. Now we have 50 cousins, too -- 70 in all. And in reality, a clan may be far bigger than 70. With nephews and nieces, say, a few hundred. What are the chances of a close relative dying? Death is all around. Consider then that medical services may be wanting, and that people frequently die because medical help was not available, or because of all-pervasive negligence. This makes unexpected deaths far more likely.
