The Thinking Behind Student Violence

I am a co-editor of Philosophical Investigations. One of "my" authors was published this morning, a Cambridge postgraduate writing on Frantz Fanon. Fanon said that there is nothing like a jolly good war to clear the air -- or a jolly good riot -- therapeutic violence. "My" author, however, doesn’t come down in Fanon's favour. OBSERVATION: Fanon has been much quoted in the widespread student riots in South Africa. This essay would therefore offer some background to what (some) students are thinking in our part of the world: Is Violence Therapeutic?
