Mission Church

In the absence of anything else to hand, here is another page from a cartoon diary which my mother made for me in the mission. Something that is immediately obvious is the organisation or regimentation of the Church -- something that is still in place today. OBSERVATION: This will be Jubilee Church in Rongorongo, on the small atoll of Beru. It was funded by impressing donors' names on the bricks. The Church survived Japanese bombardment in WWII, although its minister, Alfred Sadd, was executed. He was advised to evacuate, but preferred to stay with his people. My most vivid memory of this Church is watching flying ants in the doorway!
