Nerve Stimulation

These devices (pictured) really do wonders for pain. It is a Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) unit that I designed, which actually went into production. It is an old idea, but up until the publication of my design, these units were both complex and expensive. I used an (almost) obsolete component, a unijunction transistor (UJT) to bust through the complexity. A well known TENS designer, Andy Flind, was shocked to see it. We since became cyber-friends, although he is gone now. OBSERVATION: This design, using a PP3 battery, should give about one month of all-night service at a time. A push-button switch and miniature neon indicator may be wired in series across the output -- to prove that the unit is working. Click on the image to enlarge. One finds information on TENS units on the Internet (which see N.B.)
