Magnetometer Performance

I began to test my new magnetometer design with two small 10VA transformers as sensors. This morning I located two 100VA transformers at Eagle Electric in Cape Town -- at a price. They had them in the cellar. I couldn't wait to wire them up to my magnetometer. Without any enhancement of my design, I can now pick up this hairpin (pictured) at half a metre. OBSERVATION: Say a good metal detector would pick up this hairpin at 50mm (2"). That makes my magnetometer ten times as good with a small, nominally unmagnetised item. If one could compare this with an ordinary metal detector (not really), the performance is extreme. And this can still be much improved.
