I made a Christmas cameo appearance in a service conducted by the inimitable Rev. Dr. Peter Schoonraad. He turns 82 this week. He said he wouldn't deliver a sermon, he would tell a story. He knew a Church (he named it) which served the upper classes, whose luxury vehicles cruised into sight every Sunday morning. Then the Church opened its doors to refugees. Weekly services became daily services, and Sundays became a tumult, where the Church was packed out. But the upper classes and their expensive vehicles vanished like the mist. Which Church would you prefer? he asked. Which Church reflects the heart of Christ?
