Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

It's the first time I write about this. This much I have said before: at thirty years of age, I suffered PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder (elsewhere on this blog). It often jumps on soldiers in or after combat. When I was held at gunpoint last year, I was calm, collected, and I connected with the gunmen throughout. I was fine for about a week. Then I was hit with symptoms of PTSD, as a few people close to me know. I was not at home when it hit me. I said to myself, you know what this is. It's PTSD. It's classic. Just get yourself home, sit down, collect yourself. But I could not collect myself. A few days later, I was good enough to carry on as (if) normal.
