Alas, my attempt at a pocketable solar watch failed (I sought to take a design which I had journal-published in 2001, and make a working model). I succeeded once again in turning out a proof-of-concept. This timekeeping device is a practicable thing. But two things were my undoing. I could not obtain optics of such a size and quality that they would really work. In fact far from it. Also, a pocketable solar watch requires a watchmaker's skills. I estimate that I could really make this work if I scaled it up to A4 size. It would then look something like a clipboard which one folds open to read the time.
