Disheartenment

Here is a post I didn't post -- twelve years ago. I would guess that I didn't post it because I hesitated to express discouragement or disorientation:
"I was disheartened about ministry this weekend. Not because it hasn't been going well. It has. Not because there has been any headwind. It didn't matter. It has been because of the extraordinary chaos of ministry. There are times in ministry when there is no way that a minister can meaningfully and thoughtfully address all that chaos -- or stand back and see the big picture. Our secretary, too, called me this morning, and said: "I can get nothing done. It's a continual stream of interruptions."
OBSERVATION: Looking back, the chaos in itself was a good sign.
