'Pointless' Ministry

A large amount of ministry would seem to be “pointless” ministry. At least, it can’t be justified in terms of any obvious returns. The dying patient one visits in hospital, the refugee one sets on a bus, the tourist who requests counselling, the cheque one presents to a haven ... The list is a long one. OBSERVATION: But generally speaking, the Church doesn’t think in terms of investments and returns. Such “pointless” ministry, too, belongs to the “engine room” of the Church. It belongs to its “heart”. Take that heart away, and it would surely shrivel up. Also, local ministry is world ministry. One's own Church benefits a great deal from what Churches do elsewhere, and vice versa.
