Change Course or Hold On?

Oliver Cromwell said, “No one rises so high as he who knows not whither he is going.” Brendan Simms of Cambridge University calls it leaders transcending their origins. That is, they have the ability to change course through the duration of their leadership. Yet Christian leadership authors James Halcomb, David Hamilton, and Howard Malmstadt consider that leaders “always, in every circumstance, and against all difficulties hold on to the God-inspired vision”. It seems there should be no change of course. So which is it? OBSERVATION: I side with Cromwell. Firstly, because a minister does not “hold on” in a Congregational system (Cromwell was incidentally a Congregationalist), secondly because God's leadership of the minister is dynamic, not set in stone.
