Over on Twitter, I put up a quote by the theologian Emil Brunner -- a vital observation about philosophy. Here is a quote by Brunner on missions:
"The Church exists by mission, just as a fire exists by burning. Where
there is no mission there is no Church; and where there is neither
Church nor mission, there is no faith."
In short, the Church has a task. If it isn't there for the task, or if it is there as an end in itself, it cannot expect to thrive. OBSERVATION: At the same time, ministry may be mission. A good question to ask is: Is our ministry mission?
