A Church in which I ministered was one of many which were members of a thriving United Women's Association. But over the years, one by one, the Women's Associations of the various Churches pulled out. Finally, my Church was the only remaining member of the "United" body. This must be an experience that many ministers have had. OBSERVATION: So what happened? I thought that tradition gradually took precedence over function. The United Women's Association looked much as it had done fifty years ago, yet the Churches had, by and large, become very different. Worship had become far less formal, and more theologically and culturally diverse. I commented at the time that resurrection first requires death.
