Ministry And Character

With the previous post in mind, in one of my Master's theses, I deconstructed Christian leadership texts -- which means that I looked for evidence that Christian authors said things which subverted their own message. And they said plenty. A commonly stated view of Christian leadership authors is that opposition may often target a minister's character -- therefore a minister should act to prevent this, above all through irreproachable behaviour. But to subvert this message, I found that these same authors said that a minister's character is targeted anyway, no matter what. A conclusion of my thesis was therefore, based on the literature: having one's character targeted as a minister is "unavoidable in the best of circumstances", and acting to prevent it is of "little use". OBSERVATION: Take Jesus as an example. His sinlessness led to the worst of judgements, and he warned us to expect the same. Of course, a minister hopes to live an exemplary life, and above all a life of faith. And by way of balance: opposition in ministry will (typically) not be continual.
