Love Hurts

I am studying a thesis at the moment, of a citizen of Kiribati (pronounced Kiribas). This explores the marriage relationship in that context. The word for love in the Kiribati language is "tangira". This is a combination of two words: "tang" for crying, and "ngira" for groaning. We smile at this in my culture. "Tang", however, may also connote tears of happiness, while "ngira" may also connote sacrifice. OBSERVATION: And ideally, those who love each other cry and groan together.
