My late wife Mirjam often used the term Torschlusspanik with reference to her ministering and counselling. It originates in the daily closing of the city gates in the Middle Ages. A famous example of panic at the closing of the city gates is that of Hamburg in 1808. It is the fear that one might miss something -- which results in various forms of panicked behaviour. One's youth might soon be spent, one might miss true love, one might miss one's purpose in life, and so on. OBSERVATION: According to the Bible, the worst case of Torschlusspanik is Satan.
