Safety Conscious

The urban environment where I ministered was not safe. One day I entered the Church foyer, and the alarm system emitted a sequence of pips, indicating that the system needed to be disabled. I reached for the control panel and deactivated it -- when there before me I saw our Church caretaker, sitting in a chair and wrapped in a blanket, watching TV. He had been sitting motionless under an activated alarm system, beneath the sensors. I said: "What's this?" He said: "Reverend, you can never be too careful!" OBSERVATION: When we first employed him, he once told me that I should not be so security-conscious. That rather changed.
