Wife E and I, last night, attended a Jewish Shabbat. About ten people were invited along. Our host began with prayers in Biblical Hebrew. "I speak modern Hebrew," he said. "Biblical Hebrew doesn't come naturally to me." Our hostess -- whose mother tongue is Hebrew -- had both great fun and great difficulty trying to tell us in English what she had cooked: "It's, you know, what do you call that?" OBSERVATION: As a way of life, Jewish people are very sociable, thus it was a warm occasion, where conversation was always easy.
