It’s “just a pretty picture” this morning. It is a photo from the mission, in the (then) Gilbert Islands. About 1967. In the foreground is Nei Kaka, renowned for her beauty, doing the washing. In the background, I am pretending to strike the Church bell, which was tabu with a capital T. OBSERVATION: I sought to visit Nei Kaka in 2003. Too late, I discovered in which village she was, on Tarawa.
