An old man asked me once whether one would lose one’s salvation through suicide. I shall cast the answer I gave him in theological terms. There are three great phases of the Christian life: justification, sanctification, and glorification. I said that one would lose one’s sanctification—or a large part of it—through suicide. OBSERVATION: He told me he was asking me because of someone he knew, who had committed suicide. That person, it turned out, did not exist. Not long after we spoke, the old man committed suicide.
