I took this photo on Tuesday of Cape Town's
Groote Kerk (Great Church) organ. It was built by
Pelz en Zoon of Alkmaar, Holland, for R35
000 (then about £17
500). It was inaugurated on 1 December 1957.
OBSERVATION: It has 5
917 pipes, a console with 102 registers, four manuals, and pedals. The shortest pipe is a mere 6 mm long and 2.5 mm wide. The longest pipe is 9.5 metres long and 254 mm wide. The pipes are made of copper, tin, an alloy of tin and lead, and wood. You may click on the photo to enlarge.
