This photo was taken (I think) in 2008. It is a young adults group about to sing at a Church breakfast. Interesting is that only one person in the photo speaks English as mother tongue -- and yet English was the Church’s "lingua franca". The mother tongues represented in the photo are Lingala (3), Pedi (2), Afrikaans (2), Zulu, Korean, and Swiss German. OBSERVATION: In my final years of ministry in this Church, all languages were minority languages. We needed therefore to work out a language policy. The very fact that we needed to, I thought, was a good sign. This is a rare photo where my wife and late wife appear together.
