Recently I worked with a young African writer on an essay on (click here) Identity Politics. That is where interest groups form political alliances (say students, Whites, pensioners, gays). This essay could be a hit -- but one never can tell. OBSERVATION: The development of this piece was particularly interesting. The author had new concepts -- strong concepts -- but he didn't draw them out. I drew them out. My co-editor, then, broadened the essay's scope. Both of us contributed to a greater dynamism.
