I still follow the electronics press with great interest. Two major magazines just published an LM3909 replacement module (a versatile flasher module). I designed the original LM3909 replacement module in 2008. The new one uses a microcontroller -- a little computer running at 5 MIPS, or 15 times the speed of the old IBM PC. But mine was better. It had 5 times wider supply voltage range, and was 7 times more efficient (it would flash 7 times longer). The same two magazines published it then as the LM3909 Replacement Module. OBSERVATION: The text to accompany my circuit (right) is at Silcon Chip's Full Text Archive.
