I took this photo on Christmas Day in the Dutch Reformed Church. This is the Church's former "koster" -- in English, verger. She relinquished the post after many years when she left the city to take up a new job.
OBSERVATION: Church vergers are special people who see to it that everything has been opened up and is in place for the Sunday services. In my experience, those who hold the position treat it as a divine calling -- it is not just a chore. They will forfeit their sleep or travel great distances to carry out their duties. Such devotion seems attached to the job.
