A local furniture store went visiting farm labourers, offering to replace their old and undesirable junk for the most modish new pieces. They arrived at the door of labourers I know, among other things replacing a lounge chair. The old lounge chair had remained solid for generations -- but the new one collapsed within a week. The farmer heard of it, and guessed what was going on: the furniture store was making a fortune off a forgotten trove of antique furniture, scattered across the farms in the homes of labourers. He demanded that they bring the old furniture back. OBSERVATION: Labourers on other farms were not so lucky.
