I have conducted several funerals where persons were murdered. At the end of 2007, two men broke into a house in Clifton, Cape Town. A woman, the sole occupant of the house, jumped for the panic button, and hit it. The alarm was raised, and armed response responded. Their brief was to check both outside and inside the house. But, they said, they needed to move on to the next call. They checked outside, but not inside. The woman was raped and murdered (strangled) inside. At the funeral service. I preached on the judgement to come, and repentance and faith. A Xhosa minister stood up after me, reinforcing what I had said -- and made an “altar call”. Nearly half the congregation responded (stood up).
