Urban ministry came as something of a shock to me, when I was called from suburbia. This is a repost, which reveals one of the biggest challenges I had when I began: "I sat down yesterday to prepare an agenda for tonight's Diaconate meeting. I paged back four years. The agenda back then referred to twelve people who were faithfully involved in the Church at the time. Today, just two of them are still with us. Seven moved away, two died, and one vanished. This is the story of an urban Church. Yet the Church is always replenished."
