I
was invited in a synagogue recently to turn to a page in the liturgy which included this prayer. We were taught about this prayer in seminary -- I had thought that it was part of the history books, but it is current. Also in the synagogue, women sit behind a veil.
OBSERVATION: I know the Jewish community well. There is mutual respect and equality between men and women. So this prayer may not be quite what it seems. "Hashem" means the holy Name which may not be spoken.
