Dead (New) Computer

I bought myself a new Acer computer, immediately erased Windows, installed Linux, and ... it was dead. The problem was clear. Acer, for this model and its relatives, had stripped out a single item from its Unified Extensible Firmware Interface menus (UEFI) -- which was the one critical item I needed. There are still solutions, although they are not the easiest. Along two lines: create a persistent Linux to control the computer from USB, or do some surgery to the UEFI files on the hard drive. OBSERVATION: I already run a ten-year-old Acer with persistent Linux. In this case, I shall try the surgery. Apparently Acer have put that UEFI line back in the most recent models.
