Thinking back on hundreds -- surely thousands -- of counselling sessions, something that impresses itself upon me is how many serious situations were rooted in, or had their origin in, what used to be spoken of as "sexual sin", of various kinds. It is a (potentially) very dangerous area. OBSERVATION: Then if one asks, for what purpose do we have the law? many of the laws of the past had the effect of managing these dangers. Of course, there were also counter-productive laws. It was a mix. But the attitude today, that protecting individual liberties and rights is the chief consideration, may signal to many that the dangers are not there -- to individuals and society. In the case of other dangers, it seems to me that we more readily regulate.
