I wrote this in 2010: "I find that studies and ministry do mix -- creative writing and ministry don't. Ministry so hogs one's time and energies that I fail to write creatively when 'in harness'. If there were anything I'd quit ministry for, it would be to write -- yet the Church is generous in the time it gives me." OBSERVATION: Basically, ministry requires enormous creative output, which leaves room for little more. In 2010, this struck a chord with ministers who read this post. Some ministers take writing sabbaticals -- Charles Spurgeon being a famous example -- or even negotiate their calling with the Church. One's calling may not be to the local Church alone, but may include writing, say.
