Someone raised the question of syncretism in a Bible study group tonight. I have served as consulent minister of two African Churches, and to this day have close contact with African Churches. There are Christians who worship Christ, yet (for example) continue to venerate the ancestors, and perform the rituals which go hand in hand with it. This includes Church leaders. OBSERVATION: But it is not entirely simple. There are African traditions where the original religious content is gone. There are religious practices which are very hard for a Christian to avoid. There are devout Christians who observe old religious traditions, and there are Christians who seem to lay more store in traditions than they do in Christian faith. And so on.
