Western Christanity

There is an important paper by the anthropologist Paul Hiebert, the concepts of which every Christian should know (click here): The Flaw of the Excluded Middle. Hiebert taught at my alma mater Fuller. If it were my paper, I would put it differently -- however, the thrust of it is vital. Hiebert describes how the Western world view is "two-tiered" -- religion and science, and nothing in between -- while Biblical and non-Western Christianity has spiritual reality in the middle. My own three tiers would look like this: at the two extremes (in the West), the cosmic God and personal faith -- and in the middle, spiritual reality.
